Art donation; Mattia Fagnoni Association

01 Sep 2010 | 2 comments »

I recently donated art to the Mattia Fagnoni cause, he is a little boy from Naples Italy that suffers from Sandhoff Syndrome, there is no cure and he has a maximum of four years of life. His family is collecting art and toys to do a massive expo and art auction to try to help the research of Sandhoff disease.
Click here for more information or to help out and buy some art.

Hello! We’re Francesco and Simona, we live in Naples and we have two children: Mattia and Nicolò. Unfortunately, Mattia is born with the “Sandhoff Syndrome”, a genetic, degenerative and lethal disease. We’re creating the “Mattia Fagnoni Association”, in order to raise funds for finding a cure for this disease and provid…ing support for the ones who would need it.Here, in Italy, Mattia is the only one who suffers for Sandhoff Syndrome; so all is more difficult for us because we’re alone and it’s hard to get practical advices and to find some help from someone who know what is this disease and how to behave. Thanks to our researches, we met many families around the world and they helped us, giving us useful advices: their presence, even from afar, has been important in difficult moments. Sandhoff Syndrome and Tay-Sachs Sindrome, are metabolic illness: sick persons are subject to the absence of the main enzymes that facilitate the release of toxins, produced by brain cells; cells gradually become sick and they create imbalances in the child that become increasingly severe. In the first 8 / 9 months of age, the child show any problem; only from 10 months onwards the first signs start: alas! Sandhoff Syndrome is difficult to diagnose because only one case in a million suffer for this illness, and you can identify it only by a Prenatal genetic diagnosis. We started to notice something when Mattia was in his 6th months of life, because he was unable to crawl and sit up, all basic steps in the stages of development.
Since then, our ordeal began: worsening of vision made Mattia almost blind. Now Mattia is in his 27th months and his condition is worsening day by day, more and more: he’s not able to move, no more and only touch and hearing, among his senses, are functioning.
Since doctors have diagnosed the disease, after many suppositions of other illnesses not so serious, we are fighting against something bigger than us. Our struggle is not only against disease but also against the bureaucracy, since it is not easy to assert our rights and to receive from them the right support.
We turned Pain and Discomfort into Strength and Stubbornness: this is what we want to convey to the ones who live situations like ours, because, even though we are in 2010, disabled person are not respected as they should be.With our artistic past and a previous experience in public relations, we decided to exploit our capacity to bind and unite artists (and everyone who can help us) in one big group. We are looking for anyone who can help us with whatever available resource. Even the mere dissemination of our message is a great help.
The ultimate goal is a financial support for researches, to find a cure for Sandhoff syndrome. We would like to be an Italian and European landmark , together with “NTSAD”, currently the only
association in the world applying itself to fight metabolic diseases and to aid families with similar problems. It is right that a chance is given to these children! Probably Mattia will live no longer than few months, but we hope a cure should be found, to help children who will born with these problems in the future and to give to their parents the possibility to imagine a future. To take information about Sandhoff Syndrome you should visit the site www.ntsad.org. This site is in English but it is the only one comprehensive of informations about genetic diseases and for solidarity with the families with these problems: to this Association we will give funds we will receive. We are creating an Italian site about Sandhoff Syndrome and about the life of little Mattia.
In the meantime you can contact us on Facebook: add to your contacts “Mattia Fagnoni”.

Thank you in advance.
Francesco and Simona

Gallery Meltdown is very excited to present “A Mute of Hounds”, a show of dog inspired art work by 50 amazing artists, to benefit the dogs of Downtown Dog Rescue. 20% of all sales of artwork will be donated to Downtown Dog Rescue.

The Downtown Dog Rescue (DDR) is the only program in California, and possibly the United States, specifically founded to assist homeless dog owners spay/neuter, vaccinate, license their dogs, as well as offer a variety of services including crisis care for the life of the dog. Each year Downtown Dog Rescue assists in rescuing over 300 dogs, mostly American Pit bull Terriers and other Power Breeds that often die in the shelters mostly due to unresolved behavioral issues. Each dog we rescue is socialized with other dogs, evaluated for aggression, sterilized, vaccinated and micro-chipped before the dog is adopted out.
We administer innovative programs in various communities in Los Angeles to promote responsible pet ownership, empower individuals to become pet welfare advocates and provide opportunities for compassionate dog lovers (friends, volunteers and donors) to make a difference in the lives of people and “downtown” dogs.

Beautiful Grim is an art auction that is designed to help the fight against cancer by donating the proceeds to help a young woman who is battling breast cancer at the age of 25. On November 3rd, 2009, she had a bilateral mastectomy after going through 16 weeks of chemotherapy. As you can imagine it has been hard for her, not only mentally and physically, but financially. The remaining funds will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, chosen by the contributing artists. Over 200 artists from across the world have banded together to help bring this idea to fruition. Professionals from the top of their field hail from industry giants like Pixar, Disney, Blizzard, Dreamworks, EA, Rockstar, Bioware, Blue Sky, Blur, and Massive Black to name a few. The theme for the event is “Beautiful Grim,” a concept that has been left open to the artists’ interpretation. La Luz de Jesus Gallery was established in 1986 in Los Angeles, California as the brainchild of entrepreneur and art collector Billy Shire. Shire is considered largely responsible for fostering a new school of art in Los Angeles prompting JUXTAPOZ Magazine to dub him “the Peggy Guggenheim of Lowbrow.”
La Luz de Jesus showcases mainly figurative, narrative paintings, and unusual sculpture. The exhibitions are considered post-pop; the art content ranges from folk to outsider to religious to sexually deviant. The gallery’s main objective is to bring underground artists and counter culture to the masses.
Some of the past shows have been groundbreaking, introducing unknown artists who have become great names in the modern art world. La Luz de Jesus helped to establish artists such as Manual Ocampo and Joe Coleman, and hosted Robert Williams’ art exhibits before he became a household name.
The gallery opens a new exhibit every month, with an opening reception that Details Magazine calls “the biggest and best party in Los Angeles.”

The Gift of Giving Art and Love

19 Jan 2010 | no comments »

Los Angeles, CA – On February 6th, 2010 Crewest Gallery will be delivering over 1,000 Valentines Day cards created and donated by 150+ artists from all over the world to the patients at The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, The Children’s Hospital in Orange County and the Youth at LA Youth Network and possibly even more.

It all started over a month ago when Crewest Gallery sent out a “Huge Call to Artists” asking artists to participate in a Valentine’s Day Card Exchange for the patients at the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. Artists were asked to create, design and sign cards then send their cards to Crewest gallery. The expressed goal of the Valentine’s Day Card Exchange was to be able to provide at least 1 card per patient at the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles (approx. 320 patients).

Through networking, the “Huge Call to Artists” was received by many including Ovation T.V., Art Slant, Artistdealineslist.com, etc. who posted Crewest’s call to artists on their sites. These sites helped greatly in spreading the word. Crewest gallery received an enormous response from artists from all over the world wanting to participate and who were all excited to show love to the kids. For some artists the Valentine’s Day Card Exchange hit home because they have once been a patient at the Children’s Hospital, they have a child who is suffering from an illness or they have kids and they can genuinely understand the benefits to showing love to the kids.

Due to the high volume of responses from artists and the number of cards to be submitted, Crewest is happy to announce that the gift of giving Art and Love through a Valentine’s day Card was able to be extended and will be received by not only the patients at The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles but also to the patients at The Children’s Hospital in Orange County and the Youth at LA Youth Network and possibly even more.

It was the coolest show I have seen yet because it was a Tarot card themed group show! I am very excited also that mine sold!

Top of the Dome 6 @ Crewest Gallery Novemeber 2009

13 Oct 2009 | no comments »

Gonna have a skull in the show as well as last years skull! crewest.com

Opening Reception: Saturday, November 7th, 2009 from 6-10 pm

Show runs thru November 29th, 2009 Los Angeles, CA -  In celebration of Dia De Los Muertos, Crewest Gallery brings further excitement through art with it’s newest exhibition “Top of the Dome IV” featuring ceramic skulls designed by Gregg Stone and transformed by the imagination of today’s hottest tattoo artists, painters, sculptors, graffiti artists, muralists, graphic designers and fine artists. This year’s Top of the Dome promises to bring an extreme level of creativity meant to inspire and stir the curious nature of the roaming soul in search of interesting and intriguing artwork to call their own. Top of the Dome is not just an exhibition but rather an experience you do not want to miss.
In conjunction with the exhibition, featured artist and painter Gregg Stone makes an impact with his collection of eerily beautiful multi-media paintings that reveal his travels thru the avenues and byways of border region Hispanic communities. While the socio-economic underbelly of these locales clearly captivates him, Stone is also keenly aware of the cultural and architectural treasures that often incongruously share space alongside the hybrid flotsam of class inequity, urban anarchy and increasing globalization. Stone transposes this uniquely south-of-the-border visual, along with his sensitive portrayal of people inhabiting it, into the vivid tapestry of images that forms the sum total of his art.
Additional events:
November 12th: Artwalk from 6 to 10pm with DJ Phyz Ed, live printing by Two Rabbits.

Max and the Siamese Twins

26 Aug 2009 | no comments »

http://www.glubdub.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=353&Itemid=10094

I am very excited to announce that I have a piece in this book!
Coming Soon…
A new book from Glubdub.com:
“Max and the Siamese Twins” by Alex Goetchius
“Part work of fiction, part art folio, Max and The Siamese Twins tells a twisted tale of two brothers, joined mentally and physically from birth, and their adventures in a world full of cruelty, lust and depravity. Hope comes unexpectedly in the form of twin sisters, performers at a seedy burlesque in the heart of the City. But trouble soon follows, as it most often does! Max and The Siamese Twins is lavishly illustrated in full color with paintings by over 40 of the leading artists in the underground art world. Each artist explores her/his own unique vision of the psychological, physical and metaphorical aspects of existence as a co-joined twin. Dark, disturbing, often erotic, often humorous, Max and The Siamese Twins is a journey into the shadowy soul of Max Stout, as well as the collective souls of a group of extremely talented and compelling artists. This first printing is being offered in limited quantities, and is sure to become a collectors item. Order yours before they are all gone!”

Update

18 Aug 2009 | no comments »

This month was bittersweet, the great thing is that I am in two group shows but the bad thing is that my back made a turn for the worst. Thankfully I am starting to feel better after a week of bed rest. Even so I am working on three more drawings all half way done and finished “Hunger”. Many people keep asking me what is wrong with my back so I will just set the record straight. I have degenerative disc disease. Basically, I have had chronic back pain since I was 15 years old. It gets thrown out time to time, due to herniated discs and etc. This time it had been sore since May but coughing from Bronchitis I had last week of July pushed it to it’s limit. I am excited to be able to be at the computer and walk around and sit with out excruciating pain! Everyday with little to no pain is a wonderful day to me so please go enjoy your good health and don’t take it for granted! :D

“CANceptual [v.3]” @ Crewest

I will have three pieces in this show.
“CANceptual [v.3]” @ Crewest
Opening MAY 2nd
Show runs May 2nd thru May 31st

CANceptual [v.3]

Exhibit Dates: May 2nd thru May 31st

Opening Reception Date: May 2nd

Crewest saves the Earth one spray can at a time. For the past 7 years, Crewest has been at the forefront of recognizing graffiti art as a unique and valid art form with aerosol cans as one of it’s main mediums. To celebrate our 7th Year Anniversary, Crewest brings you the third installment of CANceptual. An art exhibition utilizing the spray can as the canvas. Artists are encouraged to find those old rusted cans and recycle them by turning them into fine art pieces for sale at the gallery. “The concept is to turn the weapon of choice into the instrument of beauty”, says Gallery Director Man One.
